On Saturday, US National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan welcomed what he described as the "historic developments" taking place in the energy sector in Iraq, including the oil agreement.
"We welcome the significant progress in Iraq this week regarding energy deals that advance Iraq's sovereignty, independence, and economic prosperity," Sullivan said in his statement.
He added, "The most prominent of these developments is that the government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government reached a historic agreement on oil export and revenue management through the pipeline between Iraq and Turkey," noting that "this paves the way for a multi-year budget now before the Iraqi parliament and the hydrocarbons law in the end for Long-term stability and predictability in Iraq's energy sector.
On April 4, the federal government and the regional government signed a temporary agreement between the Federal Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Natural Resources in the regional government, according to which the export of crude oil abroad from Kurdistan and Kirkuk governorate will resume after it was suspended by the International Arbitration Tribunal in Paris.
And he pointed out that the second matter is “the government of Iraq reaching an unprecedented deal worth $ 27 billion with the French company TotalEnergies, including a project to enable the recovery and use of flared gas in southern Iraq.”
He pointed out that, "Once implemented, this historic project will increase the supply of electricity for the benefit of the Iraqi people, enhance energy self-sufficiency in Iraq, reduce the harmful climatic effects of gas flaring in southern Iraq, and allow the export of gas products to new markets."
He continued, “We are pleased that companies from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United States will play important roles in this infrastructure project.”
He stressed, "The United States is proud to support these and other regional projects and ongoing diplomatic initiatives to promote a more stable, interdependent, and prosperous Middle East region, which ultimately benefits the United States and the American people."
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, informed, on March 19, the Secretary-General of the “OPEC” Organization, Haitham Al-Ghais, that Iraq is continuing to benefit from the gas wealth of both types, the explorer and the accompanying one.
On the 29th of the same month, the Iraqi Oil Minister, Hayan Abdul Ghani, announced the start of gas investment operations from the crutch gas field in Anbar Governorate at a rate of (60) cubic metres, while the ministry's spokesman considered that a message to foreign companies to invest in the exploration fields and patches that the ministry intends to announce this year. .
