The Cultural Adviser to the Prime Minister held its first activities concerned with the origin of the Iraqi crisis and the subsequent crises and problems that led the country to more controversy that has been going on for decades, a controversy that led to a tiring debate that was not ended by the individual effort of intellectuals inside and outside Iraq to search for an answer to one of the most complex questions of the Iraqi state. What is the collective identity? How do you boost?
Adviser to the Prime Minister for Cultural Affairs, the poet Aref Al-Saadi, who called for turning the conference into a brainstorming session, in the hall of the Pelitum Hotel in central Baghdad yesterday, wrote in the introduction to the invitation to the conference, during which the participants dealt with several research papers, “What is the great national identity that unites? Is it religion, or language, or customs?
the date?".
The conference banner bore a title for the two main axes of the event, "Dialogues in Building the State and the Nation... Towards a Vision for the Formulation of a Solid National Identity." Muayad Swinet, and Dr. Khaled Abd al-Ilah Abd al-Sattar, and Dr. Louay Khazal and Dr. Adnan Sobeih and Dr. Ali Taher, while the second axis came under the title "Building the State and the Nation in Iraq... Politics Contradictions and Ethno-Sectarian Attractions" moderated by Dr. Ali Al-Marhej, with the participation of Dr. Ali Faris, Dr. Ilham Makki, Mazen Al-Zaidi, Dr. Saad Salloum.
pressing questions
The cultural advisor, Aref Al-Saadi, said: The cultural advisor to the Prime Minister is keen to "hold the scientific conference specialized in national identity, which takes place for the first time at the level of the prime minister," pointing out that the conference is attended by "a group of Iraqi professors, academic doctors, and researchers interested in reaching A serious treatment of national identity, its overlaps and references.
Al-Saadi added in his speech, "These researches are concerned with the rise of sub-identities and their competition with the greater national identity, and then they are concerned with answering the question: What is the unifying national identity? Is it religion? Or language? Or customs? Do we as Iraqis have an identity that unites us and proceeds from it? Or do we Multiple peoples and different nations that geography brings us together and history separates us?Are Sumer, Babylon, Assyria, and Accad civilizational identities that unite us, or are they identities that we flee to away from our distressed present?
Al-Saadi continued by saying, "Away from religion and sect; we seek refuge in Hammurabi and lean on Gilgamesh, and we are for Sargon of Akkad?" Pointing out: "We learned more than thirty years ago in the schools of the nation-state, so the identity of the country was clear, pan-Arab, from the name of the street to the name of the school to the poem found in reading to the sentence of syntax and even examples."
mathematics".
Al-Saadi also points out that "after April 9, 2003, do we have a clear and specific identity? Are we Arab, religious, sectarian, or secular? Are we children of democracy or children of dictatorship, or have we lost both ways? And if we have lost a lot, can we preserve our children and formulate They have their own unifying identity, or are identities not formulated, but rather created with the environment and customs? But, as I think, we can plant a part of the unifying national identity in the minds and hearts of students through the curriculum after the researchers agree on that identity, in the hope of creating a country free of extremism and a believer. peaceful living and sustainable development.
The cultural advisor to the Prime Minister was optimistic: "We can cultivate an identity in the minds of students, and in building houses, facades of buildings, food, fashion and songs, so that our identity crystallizes," calling for a brainstorming session to come up with recommendations to be submitted to Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani.
Dr. Muayyad Suwenet, the moderator of the first session, started with a speech in which he said, "We are living in a time when identities are fragmented. We have a variety of materials that will be presented by specialized researchers. Each of them sees identity from his point of view, especially the unifying identity away from fragmentation."
One identity or multiple?
Executive Director of Al-Bayan Center for Studies and Planning, Dr. Ali Taher Al-Hamoud focused on highlighting the convictions of a large segment of Iraqi intellectuals in a research paper titled "Building the Iraqi Nation... The Incomplete Path to a Solid National Identity", followed by Dr. Khaled Abd al-Ilah, by intensifying his research on: "The pluralism of the Iraqi identity between history and cultural diversity...a critical intellectual vision" I pointed out the inherited understanding that is now colliding with the plurality of frameworks from which the culture of the future is formed.
Dr. gathered Saad Salloum, his visions in the research on: "Unity in Diversity... The Question of Identity in a Pluralistic Society" and established d. Adnan Sabih Thamer, The government role in the emergence and crystallization of identity, sympathetic to what has been deposited in the memory of society, through a study entitled: "Towards an official institution for Iraqi memory... Planned communication with the public to create a national identity."
As for Dr. Elham Makki, referring to gender diversity in her research: "Gender... the transnational gender of sexual formation... and the construction of national identity," which had complex sociological... social inclusions, followed by Mazen Al-Zaidi, revealing: "The suppressed and unspoken in the problems of national identity ".
Dr. Ali Fares dealt with "building the nation in Iraq... a vision of rationalizing politics and the challenges of the citizen's state," while Dr. Louay Khazal in "Iraqi National Identity... Rationalization of Identities and Structural Traditions".
The need for an identity
Ali Al-Fawwaz, President of the Union of Writers and Writers, indicated that "the conference embodies a basic need to discuss problematic issues, such as the state, the nation and identity, which necessarily require important approaches related to what is political, especially since these issues were linked to a troubled history and deep conflicts that were reflected in their conceptual formation of the state and the nation." ".
Al-Fawwaz added in his intervention, "This identity has been storing many of those conflicts, especially the conflict that was linked to domination, power, and its unifying identity. I think that opening the horizon for such dialogues will put us in dealing with open entitlements to reset concepts and their uses," considering that they "formulate a cultural and national contract." It establishes these issues and puts them in a communicative context that guarantees their success in establishing real transitions from a weak state to a strong state, from a fragile society to a cohesive society, and from expelling egos to an effective gathering capable of containing national and ethnic components within an effective, real and humane framework.
In turn, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Imad Jassim, said: "This conference is an initiative towards confirming academic attendance and building bridges of communication with intellectuals in the framework of discussing important files that support the state's tendencies in consolidating the Iraqi national identity and shedding light on the problems plaguing the country." .
The beginning from childhood
Director of the Iraqi Center for Child Culture d. Kazem Abdul-Zahra: He indicated that "it is necessary for the Prime Minister to pay attention to issues related to national identity," explaining: "These conferences are an important key to opening the way towards confirming the identity of a homeland through decisions that he intends to submit to the Council of Ministers. It requires a balanced vision that takes into account the overcrowding of the study board with materials.
Member of the Council of the Journalists Syndicate, Dr. Zahra Al-Jubouri, touched in her intervention on the objective circumstances surrounding the great question of identity, "How do we build the national identity? And the children of Iraq sleep outside hungry.. How do I build the national identity in the minds of the children of Iraq who are on the verge of semi-compulsory illiteracy due to poverty The family and the decline of public education, which is now close to being education in the open."
And al-Jubouri continued on the same topic, which is related to the foundation on childhood, that "the reality shows the child's lack of his most basic rights, so what prevents him from even sitting on an elegant or comfortable flight? How do I build a national identity and the ideology of "ISIS" is present in the minds of our children in the liberated areas, which are bombs Temporary, exploding at any moment? How do I build a national identity when our children are ignorant of our history and civilizations due to illegal technology that entered our homes without permission? How do I build a national identity and the lesson of patriotism has become a thing of the past and educators do not care about it."
The solution is in human government
Researcher Ibrahim Al-Abadi considered the conference: "A bold and excellent step, which is for the executive authorities and policy makers to communicate with the intellectual elite in the country. Intellectuals and academics have always complained of marginalization and the inability to communicate with the ruling political elite, and politicians have always been in great need to be guided by the visions and ideas of the cultural elite." ".
Al-Abadi stated in his intervention that “the state, with its institutions and men, cannot be satisfied with its perceptions, and neglect the cultural body in the country under the pretext of narcissism and idealism of the intellectuals. ". He suggested: "I see that bridging the relationship between the authorities and the elites is a promising step for joint work that must be patient, nurtured and developed, in order to achieve the goals that everyone aspires to, foremost of which is building the state of the human being / the active citizen participating in self-determination, improving his reality, and working to create his future."
In turn, the poet Musa Ahmed said: "The form of building the Iraqi state since the twenties witnessed cultural and governmental fluctuations that explain the current form of the state as well," while the poet d. Hassan Abd Radhi pointed out that "the Iraqi state needs a project that deepens its construction, and this requires an effort that is available only by attracting academics, intellectuals, and opinion leaders to present opinions and give advice, as building the state is based on an effort that begins with opinion makers and ends with tables."
Decision-makers".
