The “state of law” rejects the establishment of regions for political purposes

The State of Law coalition parliamentary bloc, which is affiliated with the "Coordination Framework", ruled out the success of the idea of establishing new regions in the event that some regions are transformed into governorates, expressing its categorical rejection of the attempt to establish regions for political purposes or gains and not according to service or administrative motives.
A member of the State of Law Coalition, Representative Alia Nassif, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "The issue of the regions was stipulated in the constitution, and it is a constitutional and legal issue, and this is what was agreed upon in accordance with the political contract represented by the constitution that the people had a referendum and vote on."
And it indicated that “if the intention was to establish the region for the purposes of geographical determinants in order to raise the level of services and administration in the governorates, then there is nothing wrong with that. The mechanism does not serve the interest of the people of the provinces from which it is called to form a region.
Nassif ruled out, "The success of the idea of establishing regions at the present time, because in the event of rejection of three provinces, we cannot form any of the regions, and there are steps through a referendum within the province, then a letter is submitted to the Council of Ministers and then voted on according to the referendum, and these procedures may make it difficult to form regions,” pointing out that “justice in distributing resources and guaranteeing the rights of the Iraqi people is the safest way, not going to fragmentation of components.”
