Parliament approves 35 articles out of 110 of the Social Security Law

Thousands of working class workers in the private sector are eagerly awaiting Parliament's move to approve the amendment to the Social Security Law, which is expected to equate them with workers in the public sector.
In its last session, Parliament approved 35 articles out of 110, as a member of the Parliamentary Labor Committee, Hussein Arab, confirmed that the postponement of the session until this week was due to lack of time, while Labor Minister Ahmed Al-Asadi urged the parliament to pass the law.
A member of the Labor Committee, Amir Al-Mamouri, told Al-Sabah, “The law is very important, as work is being done to amend the law enacted in 1971,” adding that “the amendment aims to revitalize the private sector and guarantee the rights of its workers in terms of pension and guarantee their rights as a result of injuries.” work, illness and other force majeure circumstances.
And Al-Mamouri indicated that it “included many privileges, including the equalization of the pension security salary in the public sector in view of the years of service and the high cost of living, as the government will participate in paying pension deductions for workers,” noting that “the law does not require the content to work in a factory, company, or union, so it is possible The unorganized self-employment worker must guarantee himself in the insurance department and participate in a certain percentage of the deductions, and it will be calculated as a service.
He added, "In the event that the insured worker obtains a job in the public sector, the service will be transferred for the purpose of bonus, promotion and retirement," pointing out that "women will be included during the maternity period with a salary before childbirth and after childbirth, and treatment and compensation will be provided for illness injuries or injuries during work."
Al-Mamouri stressed that "the law is characterized by many paragraphs, and it will be legislated to be a guarantee umbrella to relieve the government sector, as the Social Security Department will be upgraded to the level of an authority, and it is expected that the number of insured persons will rise to millions, while it currently stands at 325,000."
In turn, the Director General of the Social Security Department, Kholoud Al-Jabri, stated, in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that "the percentage of the worker's work in the private sector will be registered with the government, and that the law will include everyone without exception, as the worker in the private sector will be referred to retirement at the age of 63." In addition to those who have 15 years of service, and that the law will be enforceable 90 days after its approval.
For his part, the media advisor to the Ministry of Justice, Kazem Al-Atwani, considered the law a quantum leap in working in the private sector.
Al-Atwani told Al-Sabah that "the amendment of the Social Security Law will be fair to workers in the private sector and will include privileges no less important than a government employee," pointing out that "the state will contribute to paying part of their pensions in addition to employers, while protecting them from termination." Arbitrary services to employers, except with the exclusive approval of the Minister of Labor, in addition to privileges related to granting plots of land and reducing the price of travel tickets.
Al-Atwani added, "The law will reduce crowding and competition for appointment in the government sector, and will promote a culture of social security that is not widespread in society, especially as employers evade it."
Al-Atwani concluded by referring to "a major inspection campaign in the private sector in conjunction with the approval of the amendment, to ensure workers with the application of legal procedures against violators."
