The Ministry of Planning has prepared many programs that alleviate poverty and unemployment in Iraq, in accordance with the government's directions to eliminate unemployment and provide job opportunities.
Undersecretary Maher Hammad Johan told Al-Sabah that the ministry worked to raise the rate of social welfare, pointing out that poverty is part of food security.
Johan pointed out that all the ministry's plans are suspended until the state's general budget is approved, noting that the basic outcomes of poverty negatively affect the health and education sectors, and accordingly the ministry is working to contain these important aspects to contribute to reducing poverty. The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning added that the programs planned to be implemented include the provision of job opportunities in coordination with government agencies and the two development funds and support for the poorest governorates, revealing that the industrial and agricultural investment sectors have adopted the employment of the labor force to accommodate the need according to the unemployment rates recorded within the latest statistics launched in the past year 2022, which reached to 16.5 percent.
