Spanish companies preparing to invest in the "development path"

The Ministry of Transport held, yesterday, Wednesday, a meeting with the UAE side to discuss steps to implement the "development path", at a time when Spanish companies specialized in the field of transport expressed their willingness to implement projects within this strategic project.
"The vital (development road) project was widely welcomed by most of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, neighboring countries, the region, and even European countries," said Shatha Radi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Transport.
She added, "There is openness on the part of these countries to participate and invest in this giant project," noting that "the ministry is in the process of ongoing talks, discussions, and continuous visits to open up to foreign companies or receive delegations that wish to contribute to this project."
And she indicated that "the visit of the Minister of Transport to Spain had a great impact in opening up to major companies specialized in the field of maritime transport, ports and railways," stressing "the presence of a welcome and willingness to participate in investment and establish strategic projects in the (development path)."
Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, chaired, yesterday, Wednesday, in the ministry's office, an intensive technical meeting with the Emirati side headed by Muhammad Jumaa Al-Shami, which also included the delegation of (Abu Dhabi Ports) and (Etihad Rail), in the presence of the Director General of the General Company for Ports. Iraq Farhan Al-Fartousi, General Manager of the General Company for Railways Younis Al-Kaabi, and a number of experts and specialists in the project.
"The meeting aims to review the future work plan and points of common interest in cooperation and investment in giant Iraqi transport projects," a statement from the ministry said.
He added, "The Italian consulting company (PEG) presented, with the project manager, during the meeting, a presentation of the details of the (Development Road) project and the Al Faw Grand Port, and the "Abu Dhabi Ports" group presented a presentation on the ports of the UAE and the nature and mechanism of work in them."
The statement indicated that "the meeting included a group of discussions and interventions by the attendees regarding the Faw Grand Port project and the vital (development path) project, and examining the economic feasibility and the extent of openness to the economies of other countries."
In the same context, the General Railway Company announced, yesterday, Wednesday, that it had received the designs for the first section of the "Development Road".
The director of the railways, Younis Al-Kaabi, said: "(The development road) is in the initial design stage," stressing that "the company has received the designs for the first section, which extends from Al-Faw to the south of Nasiriyah."
He added, "The technical teams and the project department are studying the designs of the first section, as there are teams for soil investigations along the road from Al-Faw to Fish Khabour, which has been referred to two Turkish companies to carry out soil excavations and sampling."
He continued, "One of the two Turkish companies operates from Al-Faw to the holy city of Karbala, and the second company operates from the northern holy city of Karbala towards the Iraqi-Turkish border," noting that "work is underway to take samples from all soil areas."
He pointed out that "the company and the Ministry of Transport are in the process of signing a contract to design the international highway (the land road), and we are in the final stages of signing the contract with the Italian consulting company to start designing."
Al-Kaabi went on to say: "With the completion of these designs or any section of these designs, there will be preparation for tenders for the implementation of the land road project."
