The "Rabban Al Safina" company revealed its plans to operate the "Bin Omar" field gas project in Basra Governorate, in preparation for production reaching 300 million cubic feet per day.
The project's chief advisor, Mounir Bouaziz, told Al-Sabah: "The (Rabban Al Safina) company is the first Iraqi to compete in the licensing rounds, as it operates the (Bin Omar) field gas project in Basra Governorate, to achieve a better investment of associated gas."
He added, "The first phase of the project will have relatively modest expected gas volumes, but these quantities will increase over time," noting that "the project is mainly designed to produce 300 million cubic feet per day, but the first phase will be 150 million cubic feet per day." After processing and fractionation, it will produce 150 million cubic feet per day of (raw gas), and 120 million cubic feet per day of (dry gas) for use in electric power generation, in addition to 1,000 tons per day of liquefied petroleum gas and 4,000 barrels per day. of capacitors.
And he continued, "Iraq's priority should be to develop this field, if it is serious about reducing the burning of wasted associated gas, as it is one of the richest fields in gas, as the field currently produces from 45 to 50 thousand barrels per day of oil," referring to "the desire of The government will increase production to 600,000 barrels per day, and this increase may coincide with oil production and gas retention in the (Bin Omar) field, in a very profitable way for Iraq.
Bouaziz believed that "Iraq is a suitable environment for investment in the oil industry in the future, in line with the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, which pushes for more gas development, and for local companies to be part of the process of development, development, and investment in gas and the oil industry in general."
For his part, Sabah Alo, a specialist in safety and energy affairs, saw that "there is something unclear about the issue of gas development in Iraq," adding that "the country is under pressure from many countries that produce this wealth."
Alou told Al-Sabah: “The (Bin Omar) oil field and associated gas currently produces 50 million cubic feet, which are used to operate a limited power station, and the local company (Rabban Al Safina) is currently working on developing it as a first stage to produce 120 million cubic feet after purification and isolation of derivatives.” .”
He added, "The company stated that it can develop dry gas production at a rate of 300 million cubic feet in the coming stages, noting that the Prime Minister confirmed that Iraq needs 1,000 cubic feet (million standard cubic feet per day) of gas in order to be able to stop importing gas from Iran. Contracting with the French company (Total) to invest associated gas and free gas in several fields such as (Mansuriya and Akkas) and others over a period of 3 to 5 years. .
And Alou indicated that "there is a policy to keep Iraq linked to its need for others, and this is evident from the lack of infrastructure development in the field of electric energy, gas and oil, as well as transportation, communications, roads and railways. But one hand does not clap, because corruption has become a major obstacle to the progress of Iraq," as he put it.
On the other hand, an official source in the Basra Oil Company announced the stability of the rate of crude oil exports for the current month of August through the Basra oil ports, in compliance with the "OPEC Plus" determinants.
The general manager of the company, Bassem Abdul Karim Al-Shamkhani, stated, in an interview with Al-Sabah, that the rate of crude oil export through the Basra oil port has stabilized, at a rate ranging between 3.45 million barrels to 3.50 million barrels per day, which is produced from the fields of Basra and the southern governorates, in order to enhance the precautionary efforts that are being taken. The (OPEC Plus) countries are making efforts to support the stability and balance of oil markets.
He explained that "the production of the Basra Oil Company for the month of August 2023 amounted to about 3.26 million barrels per day," stressing "the company's ability to escalate the export rate through the oil port to reach the target of about 6 million barrels per day in the future," adding that "this matter remains subject to the extent of completion of a warehouse." The giant Fao, as well as providing funds for the strategic project in laying new land pipelines from the Barjisiya and Rumaila site to transport crude oil to the oil port of Basra in our territorial waters.
Al-Shamkhani affirmed, "The export ports and buoys in the Basra oil port were not affected by a limited fire incident that occurred in the al-Amaya port, which is separated from its facilities from the Basra oil port."
