    Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Planning announced the completion of its preparations for implementing the tourism expenditure survey in 8 governorates, in cooperation with the Border Crossings Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority.
    A statement by the ministry, which was received by "Al-Iqtisad News", stated that "the Central Statistical Organization carried out an extensive training course in which directors of statistics departments participated in (8) governorates that witness a large tourism movement," noting that "the aim of the survey is to provide indicators of revenues from the tourism sector." For Arab and foreign tourists and non-resident Iraqis in Iraq to know ways to spend on accommodation services in hotels and tourist accommodation complexes, food and drinks, purchase of various commodities, gifts and precious jewelry, expenses on internal and external transportation, entry visas, communications and treatment.
    He added, "The tourism sector is one of the important sectors that have an effective role in advancing the process of progress inside Iraq and in employing the largest number of young people to reduce unemployment and increase the bonds of interaction and cooperation with countries because of its impact on the volume of internal and external trade exchange and the provision of foreign currency."
    He pointed out that "the survey will be carried out in the eight governorates in which tourism activity is concentrated, which are (Kirkuk, Diyala, Anbar, Baghdad, Wasit, Najaf, Maysan, Basra and the provinces of the Kurdistan region)," pointing out that "the survey is one of the important surveys that serve the requirements of the national accounts." In two basic aspects, the first is to adjust the gross domestic product according to expenditure items from the item of exports.
    The statement indicated, "The implementation of the survey will start next week, coinciding with the annual million-year visit of the forty days of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), given the large numbers that enter Iraq to perform the visit, which is an appropriate opportunity to collect statistical data on religious tourism and provide important results and indicators."
