After the end of his meeting with Masrour Barzani, Al-Maliki made a press statement, Thursday (September 14, 2023), in which he said: Within the strategy of the true relationship and partnership between all components of the Iraqi people and the common matters between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, what concerns us is that our Kurdish people live under their government. All the Iraqi people will live under the federal government in harmony, harmony and comfort, and the Iraqis will benefit from their wealth.”
He added: “Iraq is a rich country, and I do not think that there is an intractable problem between the government and the region,” explaining that the matter is “a process of review and understandings that will end, as happened in the conversation between the delegation and the prime minister and the government and between us and them.”
He stressed that the meetings “will end with solutions that satisfy everyone within the legal and constitutional contexts.”
When asked whether Baghdad would send sums to Kurdistan Region employees this week, Al-Maliki answered: “It seems to me, through the agreement between the regional government and the central government, that this will happen, God willing.”
He stated that “the political agreements made in Iraq will be implemented,” adding, “Political agreements are made to be implemented and not to be put on the shelf, and if there is complexity in some paragraphs, they will be implemented through dialogue.”
The head of the State of Law coalition stressed that “the Constitution is the guarantor of the Kurdistan Region.”
Regarding support for the coordination framework for the ongoing agreements between Baghdad and Erbil, the head of the State of Law coalition stressed that “the coordination framework is the basis for forming the government, which is considered the government of all Iraqis, and it bears its full responsibility in supporting the government and its decisions, as well as the agreements that take place between the government and the region.”
The Presidency of the Kurdistan Regional Government, in its statement regarding the meeting between Masrour Barzani and Nouri al-Maliki, stated that the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed that “the failure to send financial rights to the region has made salary recipients face difficult circumstances,” noting that the salaries of the Kurdistan Region “have not been sent for three months, despite Unlike the rest of Iraq, where salaries are paid monthly without delay.”
Masrour Barzani asked the head of the State of Law coalition for “support and cooperation in this regard,” while Al-Maliki expressed his willingness to do so.
