    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Tuesday (June 18, 2024), Representative Youssef Al-Kalabi announced his intention to question the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Fadel, due to the ministry’s “major failure” in resolving the electricity crisis.
Al-Kalabi said in a tweet on the (X) platform, “The Minister of Electricity (professional and specialist) was unable to fulfill his pledges before the Finance Committee and the House of Representatives in 2023 when he requested a large allocation to the ministry and promised to end the electricity problem.”
He pointed out, "Failed planning, promises to connect with countries that were of no use, and patchwork maintenance. It is shameful for Iraq to remain without electricity, and it is even more shameful for us to blame the failure on other countries."
Al-Kalabi added, “Electricity requires firmness, decisiveness, integrity, and, above all, honor. The minister will be the first minister to be questioned about the people’s fatigue and groans due to the ministry’s great failure.”
It is noteworthy that the expected interrogation comes in light of a long interruption of electricity supply hours and a significant rise in temperatures over the past few days in Iraq, which sometimes exceeded 50 degrees Celsius.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Electricity announced, on the 12th of this month, the dismissal of more than 10 officials in the ministry’s sectors in different governorates, under the direction of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, “due to the delay in preparing energy during the past days.”
