    [rtl]Baghdad - Iraq today:[/rtl]
[rtl]A member of the State of Law coalition, Saad Al-Muttalabi, responded to the Minister of Justice, Khaled Shawani, regarding a link between the general amnesty and overcrowding in Iraqi prisons. While he confirmed that the minister is trying to “prepare” public opinion for the law, he identified two problems with the prison problem.[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Muttalabi said in a press interview, “The Minister of Justice’s talk about a general amnesty and his role in emptying prisons is just a preparation for public opinion,” noting that “political leaders decided to pass it, and the Minister of Justice’s talk is an attempt to find popular sympathy with the prisoners' file.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, "The overcrowding of inmates and convicts in Iraqi prisons is caused by two problems: the first is the confusion of the prison administration, and the state's failure to adequately prepare prisons," noting that "the other problem is the presence of those sentenced to death and the delay in implementation of these sentences.”[/rtl]
[rtl]A member of Al-Maliki's coalition explained that “correctly implementing death sentences would have led to emptying the prisons,” pointing out “the presence of thousands of people sentenced to death, who cost the state $10 per day for each of them.”[/rtl]
[rtl]Earlier, the Minister of Justice, Khaled Shawani, confirmed during television statements that issuing the general amnesty law would reduce overcrowding in prisons.[/rtl]
