    The Municipality of Rusafa, affiliated with the Municipality of Baghdad, announced today, Monday, the commencement of the first phase of the campaign to develop the historic areas of the capital, while specifying a map of the areas included in the development.
    The Director General of Al-Rusafa Municipality, Laith Al-Kaabi, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the project to develop Baghdad’s historic areas is an ongoing project after coordination was made with the Association of Private Banks, and the completion of the development of Al-Mutanabbi Street.”
    He added, "The Association of Banks has begun developing the first axis (Saray Axis), and preparations are currently being made for the other axis to determine the ownership of the buildings and obtain approvals to develop the facades and direct the institutions that own buildings in this axis to take care of them. The Association of Banks will also undertake the development of the other facades."
    He pointed out, "There is a complete project to develop historic Baghdad, which starts from Bab al-Muadham Bridge to the Republic Bridge and also towards the Rusafi Monument. It is a joint work between the Baghdad Municipality, the Baghdad Governorate, and other committees."
    He stated, “The buildings located within historic Baghdad, some belong to citizens and others belong to ministries, so intensive and continuous meetings were held with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the Board of Advisors, and there was great interest from Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, as almost all parties met to determine the ownership of the buildings.” Within this scope, comments are made and approvals are given, whether from the Shiite and Sunni endowments or the Ministry of Defense.”
    He continued, "The Municipality of Baghdad, the Ministry of Finance, and the Association of Banks were present in these meetings, to overcome all obstacles and achieve the result of developing this important axis of historic Baghdad."
    He pointed out, “Within the Al-Rusafa Municipality sector, there are 22 localities currently covered by heritage, as this axis was chosen for development, and it is a very important axis, which starts from Al-Rashid Street to Al-Rusafi and from the Bab Al-Muadham Bridge to the Al-Jumhuriya Bridge, and it contains many obstacles and there is work in it.” Very large,” stressing that “the Rusafa Municipality Department, in cooperation with all relevant institutions, is constantly overcoming all obstacles and providing all requirements for the development of Baghdad.”
