     Today, Tuesday, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, sent a message of congratulations on the occasion of United Nations Day, stressing that Iraq is a founding member of the United Nations and a contributor to its work.
    In the text of the congratulatory message, Plasschaert said: “United Nations Day, celebrated annually on October 24, reminds us all of the importance of peace and working together for the good of humanity.”
    “These aspirations are very important and appropriate here in the Middle East, as well as in the rest of the world,” she added.
    She pointed out that "in the ongoing tragic conflicts, coupled with divisions both within and across borders, the United Nations maintains its unique role, as it works with various actors to end violence and resolve conflicts, while working - sometimes in the most difficult circumstances - to mitigate their negative effects on vulnerable civilians, including This is done by providing life-saving humanitarian assistance.
    Plasschaert stated, “In Iraq and elsewhere, the United Nations serves people from all sectors of society, and works with national institutions and civil society to achieve the aspirations of all.”
