Qatar is open to considering the presence of Hamas on its territory...an official reveals 78419

    [rtl]Baghdad - Iraq Today:

While Qatar has been playing a mediating role with the Hamas movement for years, a senior American official revealed something new in this file.[/rtl]
[rtl]He said that Doha informed the United States that it is open to reconsidering the presence of the Palestinian movement on its territory once the crisis of dozens of prisoners who have been held by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, inside the Gaza Strip since October 7 is resolved.

The official also stated that this understanding was reached during a meeting between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during Blinken's visit to Doha earlier this month, according to what Reuters reported.[/rtl]
[rtl]Blinken had requested Doha's support in releasing prisoners held by Hamas and preventing the war with Israel from escalating into a regional conflict.

It is noteworthy that Qatar's role became prominent during the conflict that erupted on October 7 between Israel and the Palestinian factions, because since 2012 it has hosted the political office of Hamas.[/rtl]
[rtl]Doha has also pumped hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to Gaza over the past years in order to rebuild the Strip every time confrontations broke out between the factions and the Israeli army.[/rtl]
[rtl]In addition, it is one of the few countries that enjoys good relations with both Washington and Tehran.[/rtl]
[rtl]However, due to the significant impact that the surprise attack carried out by Hamas had on Western capitals allied with Israel, especially Washington, Qatar recently began to face questions and inquiries regarding its continued hosting of the political leadership of Hamas in Doha, according to what American media reported.[/rtl]
