Baghdad: Muhammad Al-Ansari
Yesterday, Wednesday, the Ministry of Interior announced the readiness of the security plan for the provincial council elections, and while the Independent High Electoral Commission stated that 906 committees monitor the virtual electoral propaganda of the candidates, the Supreme Security Committee formed a small committee of 7 specialists specifically for cybersecurity for the elections.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Miqdad Al-Moussawi, said: “The security meetings to determine the plan to secure the elections are continuing.” He added, “All preparations and preparations have been completed and all matters are ready. All that remains is setting the basic and final lines of the security plan.” He stated that “the plan will include Participation of all parts of the Internal Security Forces.”
In addition, the Digital Media Center stated, “The Supreme Security Committee to secure the elections formed a special committee for cybersecurity consisting of 7 representatives with expertise in technical equipment,” noting that “the committee’s mission is to examine the equipment for the electoral process.”
In turn, the spokesman for the Joint Operations Command, Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, said: “The Joint Operations Command continues its work to secure the elections for the provincial, district and sub-district councils, and plans related to the Karbala, Basra, Diyala and Maysan operations commands were recently discussed.”
He added, “The meetings held by the leadership witness the discussion of plans drawn up to secure the elections, as directives were issued to protect polling centers and warehouses and coordinate between the security services to transport and store ballot boxes.”
Al-Khafaji stressed that “arrangement and coordination are continuing to create a safe electoral atmosphere on December 18, and plans have been prepared for this day for more than 5 months, and that joint operations are continuing their work in this regard.”
Meanwhile, the head of the media team for the Independent High Electoral Commission, Imad Jamil, said: “The conditions for placing banners are not from the Commission, but rather the conditions of the Baghdad Municipality and the municipalities in the governorates that want to preserve the beauty of the city and its properties.”
He added, “We should stay away from state property, such as electricity poles, bridges, school buildings, clinics, and universities affiliated with state departments. Election propaganda can, for example, take place on buildings belonging to the people with the approval of their owners and payment of rent to them. If the propaganda is placed on a private building without the consent of its residents, the candidate bears accountability.
” “Legal.”
He noted, “We will follow up and focus on rejecting sectarian rhetoric that attempts to distort the reputation of other candidates, unless there is evidence presented. We will monitor the media as well as what is published in newspapers and social media. We have monitoring committees spread throughout Iraq, and as for the committees that will supervise electoral propaganda.” Virtually, there are approximately 906 committees, and there is a centralization in the governorate offices, where 16 committees were formed with the main committee of the complaints department in the national office, which prepares the final report and submits it to the Council of Commissioners to take decisions.”
Provincial council elections are scheduled to be held on December 18, and these will be the first local elections held in Iraq since April 2013.
