The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, confirmed that the key to Iraq's stability is resolving the Kurdistan Region's problems with the federal government, noting that Iraq and the Kurdistan Region must deal with the current events in the region with caution.
Barzani said this in his speech at the American University in Dohuk, saying, "Iraq must be stable in order to advance, and now is the time to think about solving the problems of the people of Iraq and not turning Iraq into a battlefield."
He explained, "Failure to adhere to the constitution has caused many problems, disagreements, and instability," stressing that "we must return to the foundations of partnership, consensus, and balance on which the new Iraq was built."
He called on the Iraqi political parties to "help the government and state institutions implement the constitution," saying that the federal system "is the basis for the Iraqi constitution and a guarantee of equality and full partnership."
He stressed the need for “Iraq to be a country of all components without discrimination in order to achieve progress and stability, and that Iraq will be strong through coexistence among its diverse components,” warning that “discrimination and differences among the components will weaken Iraq and lead to its backwardness, and all components must be involved in the political decision and management.” The country, and no Iraqi component or citizen should feel injustice and discrimination.”
