Parliament is pushing the government towards an open and long judicial confrontation with creditors and those claiming the personal right to recover their money, which may include Iraq’s balances in the United States.
A member of the Finance Committee in Parliament, MP Hussein Mu’nis, said “Al-Sabah”: “Restrictions were imposed by the United States of America on Iraqi funds abroad following the invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and over a period of three decades,” noting that “despite Iraq’s exit from the chapter Seventh to Sixth of the United Nations Charter, which allows it to obtain its frozen funds abroad, Washington still imposes immunity on those funds in its federal banks, and uses the excuse of the existence of Iraqi creditors that can sue Baghdad to recover its debts.
Mu'nis explained that his committee "addressed more than one party to find out the identity of Iraq's creditors, but this issue has been shrouded in mystery until now, and it is not completely clear to those concerned with the economic situation in the country," indicating that "such topics bear the logic of profit and loss, not to mention that such These cases are considered a personal right and there is no statute of limitations, which requires Iraq to confront these lawsuits to prove the United States of America’s claim of the existence of these parties.

The representative in the Finance Committee suggested “scheduling the debts, if they exist, because there is damage that may be caused to Iraq as a result of the American custodianship of its funds on the political, security, and even social levels,” calling on the government to “confront these challenges, if true, because the damage that is being caused to Iraq as a result of the American custodianship is not Less damage is caused by the emergence of new creditors who win lawsuits

Mu'nis pointed out that "Parliament addressed the competent authorities regarding this matter and no clear answers came, for fear of the presence of other additional lawsuits that might be filed against Iraq. However, Iraq can only confront the creditors and address the issue with knowledge of the size of the debts and the size of the profit and loss, if true," noting that Iraq "has settled all its previous debts in the Paris Club and Kuwait, so there is no point in delaying this file more than necessary and resolving this problem as quickly as possible since it has become an element that affects the sovereignty of Iraq."
