    Economy News _ Baghdad
The Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee considered that the legislation of the Supreme Water Council law is very important in this period, indicating that its tasks are limited to regulating Iraq’s water share with the riparian countries, in addition to the share of the governorates.
Committee member, Ibtisam Al-Hilali, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Iqtisad News” that “the law of the Supreme Water Council in Iraq is one of the most important laws that have been in parliament since 2007 until now,” noting that “whenever a law is enacted for the Council Water will be well and legally regulated, as the law makes the Prime Minister responsible for the Council, in addition to that he will be obligated to conclude agreements with neighboring riparian countries to restore the right to our full share of the water.”
Al-Hilali added, “The Council’s work, in accordance with its law, which we intend to legislate, is to basically regulate water shares between the riparian countries, including Iraq’s share,” pointing out that the agreements have a legal status and contribute to organizing relations with countries, and if Iraq does not receive its sufficient share, the Council can go to To international courts.
The committee member pointed out that “Parliament is determined to legislate the law during the current session, and if it is legislated, it will be a gain for Parliament, especially after the Council of Ministers voted on it,” explaining that “there are not many amendments to the law, but only some paragraphs of them.”
She pointed out that "the Agriculture and Water Committee presented this law to the Presidency of Parliament in order to include it on the agenda for the first reading."
