    The President of the Republic pointed out that work is serious to form the Supreme Water Council for the purpose of finding the necessary solutions through coordination and cooperation with neighboring countries to ensure a fair and adequate share of the water needs of Iraqis, at a time when the legislative authority intends to legislate the formation of the Council, which was widely welcomed by the specialists.
    In this regard, a member of the Parliamentary Water and Marshes Committee, Rafik al-Salhi, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah" followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that the committee has actually started following up the formation of the council and the legislative procedures for its formation.
    Al-Salihi added that the council will contribute to overcoming the critical phase that Iraq suffers from, especially in the central Euphrates and the southern regions of it, stressing the need to form and activate the role of this council, which will include a group of committees to mitigate the danger posed by water scarcity to agriculture.

    For his part, environmental expert Tahseen Al-Moussawi explained that the formation of a higher council for water is very important because it carries several political aspects.

    Al-Musawi said: The council will be linked to ministries and provinces, including the Kurdistan region, pointing out that everyone is heading towards the Ministry of Water Resources in any file related to water, while this matter involves all ministries and provinces, and everyone will gather at one table to come out with one policy.
    Al-Musawi indicated that the council will deal with international agreements with neighboring countries, especially upstream countries, in addition to diagnosing strengths and weaknesses, adding that it will address the problem of water use internally, such as agriculture that needs large amounts of water, the use of modern systems, salinity issues, and others.
