The Ministry of Agriculture revealed the details of its plans for projects to invest in desert lands and use modern irrigation techniques, while confirming that it has brought about an important and unprecedented shift in agricultural investment.
Ministry spokesman Muhammad Al-Khuzaie said in an interview: Desert investment projects have achieved giant and excellent steps, including what was accomplished by the holy shrines in Holy Karbala and in the Holy City of Najaf, as well as what was accomplished in the Samawah Desert through the Engineer Company within a project to plant more than a million palm trees, and also a city project. These are reliable investment projects that have proven their success and seriousness, and there is continuity in their expansion, and their fruits have begun to be harvested through both plant and animal products.

These projects were successful and large in size, as they occupied a large area of ​​the investment plan throughout Iraq, and they needed a safe, stable environment, and this is what was achieved. . Pointing out: The Anbar Desert is on its way towards investment, after years of security conditions that prevented investment and expansion.
He pointed out: Anbar represents an attractive environment for investors and has already received requests for investment to follow the example of the desert areas in the governorates of Najaf Al-Ashraf, Holy Karbala and Muthanna, stressing: The success of the existing projects in Holy Karbala is what caused the expansion there and in other governorates to provide an environment that encourages the success of projects and achieving profits. Good for investors, which is also in the interest of the national economy.
He continued: The most prominent products of these projects are the dates that are grown with high quality, especially in the desert of the holy Karbala projects, which are now exported to the markets. Among their types are the Medjool dates, which are packaged in the size of half a kilogram and sold in the local market. The Ministry’s Administrative Undersecretary, Mahdi Sahar, said in a press statement: “The Ministry of Agriculture has prepared an agricultural plan for the 2023-2024 agricultural season, with a decrease in irrigated agricultural areas by approximately one million dunums compared to last year, which was 2 and a half million dunums, due to the lack of water revenues from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.” And the measures taken by the Turkish side to reduce the share of water.”
