    Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Planning confirmed, on Monday, that the plan that was drawn up for the population census is continuing and the results will be at the end of this year, and there are requirements, most notably the training of 120,000 enumerators to begin the experimental census during next May.
    The official spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, told Shafaq News Agency, “The Ministry is continuing to conduct the population census this year,” noting that “the population census will take place during the month of November of this year according to the established plan.”
    He added, "The work stages require importing tablets and also conducting the census as an experimental procedure in the month of May of the current year, in addition to preparing training for enumerators, whose number will reach 120,000 enumerators in the month of July of the current year."
    He explained that "the census also requires inventory and numbering operations, which is considered the backbone of the census, which will take place in August or September of the current year, and the provision of a satellite image for units at the governorate, district, and village levels, as well as the establishment of a data center and coverage for all regions of Iraq, and the provision of administrative, individual, and logistical requirements as well." At specific timings.”
    He continued, "The time factor is one of the most important challenges we face in conducting the census, given the short period of time, and there are great efforts and additional work to overcome this."
    Al-Hindawi explained, “The work is now taking place in coordination with the Kurdistan Region and the Supreme Representative for the Census, and there are ongoing meetings and coordination with the Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Planning in Kurdistan.”
    Earlier, the Ministry of Planning estimated that the population in Iraq in 2023 reached 43 million people, and indicated that Baghdad is the most populous according to population projections based on annual estimates.
    The last population census was conducted in Iraq in 1997, and the political forces did not agree over the past years to conduct the census, which is considered the basis for distributing wealth in the country, drawing development plans, evaluating their results, and setting the correct plans for reconstruction.
