Violations of the Ministry of Commerce continue in many files, the most prominent of which is the food basket, which is tainted with many suspicions related to contracts awarded to certain parties as a result; The exchange of political interests and service between the political forces within the Sunni component, given the billions of contracts concluded to import the materials contained in the food basket.
Some say that the entire Ministry of Commerce is considered one of the government's redundant links, through the proposal to grant sums of money to citizens on a monthly basis instead of a food basket that does not fatten or relieve hunger in any way. Mutual service between political forces, including Al-Halbousi’s acquisition of a contract worth $4 million during the Al-Kadhimi government.
*Basket contracts?
Speaking about this file, an informed source revealed that contracts were awarded by the Ministry of Commerce to the expelled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, during the previous Al-Kadhimi government, while he confirmed that food basket contracts in the Ministry of Commerce were always awarded in secret meetings.
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, said in an interview, “There are exposed political parties that control these contracts and they are always acquired in exchange for giving up some positions or gaining other positions,” pointing out that “money laundering has worsened in recent years as a result of an increase in money laundering.” These deals are controlled by political forces within the Sunni component.”
He points out that “huge numbers of food basket contracts (the people’s livelihood) are stolen annually from these parties without proper control being imposed, as a result of collusion and mutual service in this file.”
The source continues his statement: “The ministry has been infiltrated and there has been no control over it from the concerned authorities for a long time until now,” adding that “all food basket contracts in the Ministry of Commerce are always awarded in secret meetings.”
*Redundant loop
In addition, a member of the Al-Fatah Alliance, Khaled Al-Saray, criticizes the performance of the Ministry of Commerce’s work in the food basket file and the contracts it concludes, while stressing that reducing the rates of corruption in food import, transportation and distribution operations has become a necessity.
Al-Saray said in an interview, “Ending corruption deals in the ministry comes from continuous monitoring to reduce the waste of public money,” noting that “the entire ministry is considered one of the redundant links in the joints of the state, and it can be shortened by paying monthly sums of money to citizens instead of the ration.”
He continues, “The Ministry tried to weaken the oversight role of Parliament’s work in the case of the lawsuit filed against Representative Hadi Al-Salami,” pointing out that “all parties are not concerned with holding a member of the House of Representatives accountable or preventing him from exercising his oversight role.”
Al-Saray continues his speech: “The import amounts and contracts concluded with countries of the world will be a great addition if they are distributed as sums of money to citizens,” adding that “reducing the rates of corruption in the import, transportation, and distribution operations of foodstuffs has become a necessity.”
*Ending violations
For his part, political analyst Qasim Balshan called on the government to end violations of the food basket by the Ministry of Commerce, while stressing that it was now being given out from one month to another, in addition to the poor nature and quality of the materials included in that basket.
Balshan said, in an interview, that “raising the slogan of combating corruption from the government must include all sectors, the most important of which are those that are in direct contact with the livelihood of the ordinary citizen,” noting that “the food basket items did not suffice for those with limited income in the face of inflammatory prices in local markets.” .
He continues, “We have not yet seen the existence of a real and effective program for the success of the entities responsible for importing, transporting, and distributing the food basket,” pointing out that “citizens are still oscillating between the greed of the corrupt and the weakness of the food basket.”
Balshan continues: “The continued indifference of the concerned party to the success of the ration card will contribute to the continuation of corruption deals for long periods.”
The government's movements remain a letter on paper, given the violations carried out by some ministries controlled by political figures who manipulate the bread of the simple citizen through contracts valued at millions of dollars, with the food basket file, the price of obtaining whose contracts sometimes amounts to relinquishing political positions for some ministries. Or the governorates. Ended 25/day
