     Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Saturday (April 6, 2024), the representative of Diyala Governorate, Mudar Al-Karawi, revealed Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani’s pledge to take three urgent measures regarding the “theft of the century” in the governorate.
Al-Karawi said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that he “contacted directly with the Prime Minister after revealing the first threads of the theft of the century in Diyala and revealing the embezzlement of billions of dinars by a network of corrupt employees that were intended to finance compensation for those affected by terrorist acts.”
He added, "The Sudanese pledged to fully support all investigative measures, provide assistance, and seek through the security services to arrest all those involved and recover the full amounts, while supporting Diyala with investigative teams to uncover all features of the theft of the century."
He pointed out that "Al-Sudani pledged to support the anti-corruption file in Diyala and to instruct important steps that will take their course in the coming days."
Yesterday, Saturday, an informed source revealed new details in the operations to track down what he called the “theft of the century” network in Diyala .
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Based on higher instructions, the file of investigation and tracking of the theft of the century network in Diyala was entrusted to a team consisting of 5 security services, including intelligence, in order to unify the effort and information in tracking down the names of those involved in the theft of billions of dinars of money." Compensation in the  governorate office .
He added, "The committee gave the green light to carry out 5 raids, some of them outside Baqubah, to track down the suspected names," noting that "two of them were arrested, while the search for the rest is underway amid coordination efforts with neighboring governorates .  "
He pointed out that "there is great interest on the part of Baghdad and at the highest levels in order to accelerate the pace of research and reveal what is hidden in the theft of the century, especially with the expansion of the violations revealed by the investigations in the past hours .  "
Last Thursday, shocking details were revealed about the “disappearance” of compensation funds for victims of terrorism, which are estimated at more than 9 billion dinars and perhaps more, according to MPs’ estimates, as employees of the Diyala Governorate Office withdrew the funds using instruments and embezzled them.
