    Economy News - Baghdad
Today, Monday, the Parliamentary Economics Committee revealed the secrets of what it called the largest “theft of the century” in the country, while noting that worrying violations had been monitored by the Iraqi Ports Company.
Committee member Yasser Hashem said in an interview followed by Al-Eqtisad News, “His committee is conducting tours of many state institutions, including the Iraqi Ports Company, and administrative and contractual violations have been monitored at a worrying level in light of the presence of unidentified companies, resulting in a waste of public funds amounting to To 20 trillion dinars at the very least.”
He added, "What is happening in Iraqi ports is the theft of the largest century in Iraq and is the most dangerous," pointing out that "what is happening in terms of contracts restricts the government in paying debts and interest in huge sums of money, even though it is an important economic resource for the country."
He pointed out that "the ports are now outside the legal and administrative control of Baghdad," noting "the necessity of conducting investigations into all the files that we presented and striving to stop suspicions of corruption and wasting of public money and taking bold decisions that contribute to correcting what is happening in Iraqi ports in a way that contributes to stopping the waste of money." .
On (February 26, 2024), the Parliamentary Integrity Committee hosted the Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, Farhan Muhaisen Al-Fartusi, and his accompanying delegation to discuss a number of files related to ports.
According to the Parliament’s Media Department, “there was an extensive discussion of the overall work of Iraqi ports and a discussion of the work of the projects currently being implemented and the contracts concluded with the various implementing agencies and how to conclude them, in addition to reviewing all the basic issues related to the company’s work.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Integrity Committee decided to keep the session open to complete research into the files listed under discussion until subsequent future sessions.
