The Federal Ministry of Oil confirmed today, Wednesday, that it will support gasoline prices even after the implementation of the new pricing scheduled for the beginning of next May.
The director of the General Company for the Distribution of Petroleum Derivatives, Hussein Talib, said in an interview followed by Mawazine News, that “the support will remain even after raising gasoline prices scheduled for May 1,” noting that the price of “improved gasoline is 850 dinars, and the support will be around 150 dinars per liter.” There will also be a subsidy of 150 to 200 dinars per liter for super premium gasoline,
which is sold for 450 dinars per liter. The existing subsidy reaches 80 or 90 percent, meaning a subsidy of 750 dinars, he
added “Iraq currently imports 15 million liters of gasoline, and the import will be reduced after the construction of the Karbala refinery and the North refinery, which produces final products during the next few days, which will reduce the amount of imports by two-thirds.
The Iraqi Council of Ministers decided to raise the prices of automobile fuel by about 30% for improved gasoline .” And by 25% for the “super” quality,
and as of next Wednesday (May 1, 2024), the price of improved gasoline will be 850 dinars instead of 650 dinars per liter, and premium gasoline will be 1,250 dinars instead of 1,000 dinars per liter.
Government advisors and observers say that the decision It comes within the framework of a broad plan taken by the government to reduce traffic congestion, but it has sparked anger and complaint from drivers in particular and citizens in general, because of its economic repercussions that may lead to high prices in general in the country.
