Al-Ani extended his thanks and gratitude to “the project’s funding source and the European Union, which contributed to financing a series of successful educational and pedagogical projects over the past two decades.”
He added: “It is no secret to anyone to know the pivotal role of the education sector in building human civilization and achieving the desired sustainable development in a world afflicted by challenge and rapid change.”
He explained, “Comprehensive and equitable quality education, which constitutes the fourth goal of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, is the basic pillar and the main window through which the other 16 goals can be achieved.”
He continued, “The three basic pillars are consistent with the fourth goal of the education project, which is our current project, and will contribute effectively to the implementation of the programs and projects of the National Strategy for Education 2021-2031.”
He pointed out, “Iraq’s vision for the Sustainable Development Goals is to achieve good and equitable education that provides high-quality educational opportunities for all segments of Iraqi society, and improve access to education responsive to gender equality, as well as achieving a qualitative shift in the Iraqi education system, improving its quality, strengthening the capabilities of its institutions, and providing opportunities.” Education for all, especially vulnerable groups.”
Al-Ani stressed that “the advisory body will harness all its energies and capabilities to support this project to achieve its goals.”
He pointed out, “The Commission is looking forward to forming a joint steering committee between the Iraqi and international sides, which will supervise and follow up on the project’s implementation and ensure the sustainability of its activities beyond 2027, without considering the end of the project’s time limit as the end of its activities.”
It is noteworthy that the project “Equitable Quality Education in Iraq, Improving Teaching and Learning and Strengthening Educational Management” (ITALEEM), this joint educational program between the European Union, UNESCO and UNICEF will work to strengthen the ministry’s governance by improving policies, planning and management.
