The popular movement for Iraq to join the Belt and Road Initiative accused the US embassy on Sunday of obstructing Iraq's accession to the Iraqi-Chinese agreement.
The head of the regulatory body, Hussein Ali Al-Karaawi, said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “The American embassy in Baghdad is moving directly to thwart the Belt and Road project.”
He added, "The American ambassador in Baghdad is working by all means to prevent Iraq from joining the Chinese Khuzam Initiative, at the same time there is failure and complicity on the part of the government regarding the Iraqi interest by responding to projects that are in America's interest," noting that "these moves are considered blatant interference." He explained that "all the evidence and data confirm that the one behind the obstruction of the implementation of the Chinese agreement is the American embassy, demanding the closure of the American embassy and the expulsion of its ambassador from Iraq." End / 25 H
