    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Independent MP Kazem Al-Fayyadh considered, today, Friday (July 19, 2024), that political conflicts have killed the House of Representatives’ oversight and legislative role, revealing fears of disrupting the sessions of the new legislative session as well.
Al-Fayadh told Baghdad Today, "The political conflicts have greatly affected the work of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, and those conflicts have killed the basic and primary role of the Council's work at the level of oversight and legislation."
He explained that "the conflict over the presidency of the House of Representatives greatly affected the parliament and disrupted many sessions due to the conflict of interests and gains between some influential parties, and this led to the disruption of the legislative and oversight role. We also fear that there will be a disruption of parliament sessions during the new legislative term, due to the ongoing political conflict over the presidency of the parliament."
Although the parliament has completed two and a half legislative years of its life, it has not witnessed any noteworthy hosting or interpellations, except for some parliamentary questions directed to officials and ministers, while nearly 150 postponed and suspended laws are lined up awaiting legislation.
The parliament's legislative holiday ended and the new legislative session began on July 9, but the sessions are expected to resume on July 20 due to the Ashura holiday and the days of visitation, when parliament will begin its second legislative session of the third legislative year.
