    Baghdad Today - Diyala
The leader of the Islamic Dawa Party, Issam Shaker, revealed today, Sunday (July 28, 2024), the annoyance of the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, about the Diyala knot and the failure to resolve it for nearly 6 months, considering what the Badr Organization is doing to be a "dangerous precedent that threatens the cohesion of the framework."
Shaker said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The Coordination Framework has acknowledged that the position of Diyala governor is the share of the State of Law Coalition, but the Badr Organization does not respond to this principle," considering that "the organization's refusal to accept this opinion is a dangerous precedent that threatens the unity of the framework in general and raises many problems."
He added, "Al-Maliki is very keen on the unity of the framework and is very upset about the delay in resolving the Diyala issue despite his continuous efforts to support several initiatives in order to proceed with the agreement with Badr and the rest of the forces with the aim of forming a government capable of absorbing the challenges in a province that suffers from multiple problems."
He pointed out that "the State of Law believes that resolving the Diyala crisis is still far from the horizon of solutions in light of the Badr Organization's lack of interaction with the initiatives put forward, including the replacement of candidates several times by the coalition," indicating that "the lines of understanding with Badr are still open and the delay is harmful to everyone."
He pointed out that "the State of Law Coalition has done a lot to push the consensus forward, but there are those who do not want to abide by what the framework has approved," stressing that "the State of Law Coalition will not give up its rights to obtain the position of Diyala Governor, and the framework supports it in this choice, and Badr is the one who bears the responsibility for delaying the formation of the local government."
The Diyala crisis can be summed up by the existence of three different visions. The first is related to the former governor, Muthanna al-Tamimi, who insists on being re-elected as governor. The second is related to the framework forces that want to give the position to the State of Law, which does not have any seats in Diyala to begin with. The third is related to the Sunni forces that have a number of seats equal to the Shiite forces in the Diyala Council, which makes them believe that the position of Diyala governor should be their share this time, with the overlap of the Badr Organization’s position, which does not appear clearly on the issue, except that information indicates that it is identical to Muthanna al-Tamimi’s position.
