The Central Oil Company of the Ministry of Oil announced, on Saturday, the pumping of gas to operate 50 megawatts of electrical power, stressing its commitment to stopping gas flaring through investment.
The company's general manager, Mohammed Yassin Hassan, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and reviewed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "the ministry worked on the government program that requires stopping the burning of gas associated with oil in all Iraqi fields," stressing "the achievement of extinguishing the gas flame by investing gas in power stations."
He added that "investing in gas associated with oil is an environmental achievement, and is part of Iraq's commitment to the World Environment Organization, and also within the Paris Agreement," noting that "investing in associated gas represents a scientific achievement, considering that the gas compression processing units have been stopped for many years, and foreign companies were unable to operate them, but they were returned to work through an Iraqi engineer who excelled in maintaining them, finding alternatives and operating them."
He pointed out that "the company is pumping gas to operate between (40-50) megawatts for the national grid, towards Taji," noting that "in the future, gas can be pumped through the national grid's Qatari line."
