    [rtl]Baghdad - Iraq Today:

A number of female representatives in the Iraqi Council of Representatives formed a parliamentary bloc whose goal was to reject amending the Personal Status Law.[/rtl]

[rtl]A statement during a press conference by the protesting female MPs explained, “In order to support the laws that protect the Iraqi family, and in rejection of amending the Personal Status Law, we announce the formation of a parliamentary bloc that includes a number of females members of the House of Representatives, whose goal is to clearly announce the rejection of amending the Personal Status Law currently proposed.”[/rtl]
[rtl]The statement added, "Also, this bloc began meeting with the leaders of the political blocs to inform them of our refusal to pass this amendment, while explaining the reasons for this rejection, the most important of which is preserving the fabric of the Iraqi family and preserving the rights of family members (men, women, and children).”[/rtl]
[rtl]He continued, “This bloc, which includes members of the House of Representatives from various components of the Iraqi people, and from different political trends, has agreed on the opinion rejecting the passage of this amendment, and it would like to make clear to everyone that the basis of the rejection is not emotional, as some claim, and not with external motives, but rather with legal, religious, professional, and social observations.” "It is based on sincere concern to protect the Iraqi family." Pointing out, “We will continue political and social work and movements, and this is supported by actors in the public scene and specialists.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He continued, “We invite the rest of our female colleagues in the House of Representatives to join us in serving the public interest.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He concluded, “We also renew our call to the brothers who support the amendment to review their position and listen to the voices of rejection and not to drag the country and society into a spiral that may cause a tear in the fabric of society.”[/rtl]
