The spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, Dhuha Al-Jubouri, said in a statement followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "the ministry has developed a comprehensive vision since the current government took over its duties and began its first steps towards reform and development in line with the government program by focusing on important strategic industries that include iron and steel, petrochemicals, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, sulfur and phosphate industries, in addition to cement, petrochemical and electrical industries."
Proceeding with new projects
and explained that "movement is underway to proceed with the project to rehabilitate iron and steel factories in Basra Governorate to secure the local need for reinforcing steel and in line with the reconstruction and building campaign," indicating that "the rolling mill was opened in Basra Governorate affiliated to the General Company for Iron and Steel after its rehabilitation was completed, and after a 21-year hiatus. It specializes in producing reinforcing steel with diameters of 8 mm to 32 mm and a capacity of 500,000 tons annually. It contains modern equipment and laboratories and a programmed control system. Its production is characterized by its superior quality and compliance with the American specification, which is considered one of the highest international specifications."
She pointed out that "the Prime Minister and the Minister of Industry and Minerals inaugurated the second phase of the DAP fertilizer production plant with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year and with high added value and in partnership with the private sector," noting that "the plant was previously designated for packaging only, and it was completely removed and a new plant was installed, which is considered the second phase of the DAP fertilizer production plant."
She added: "The first production line of the urea fertilizer plant was opened after its rehabilitation in partnership with the private sector to contribute with the second production line managed by the cadres of the General Company for the Manufacture of Southern Fertilizers to produce more than 2,000 tons per day," noting that "the DAP urea fertilizer is fully prepared for the Ministry of Agriculture."
She continued: "The continuous casting plant was inaugurated in Baghdad Governorate by the Prime Minister, as it was rehabilitated and operated in partnership with the Turkish company Noor Soy and operates with advanced technology to invest iron scrap and convert it into slabs ready for rolling with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year."
She stressed that "the current government has opened the pivotal sprinkler factory affiliated with the General Company for the Manufacture of Cars and Equipment, which was established in partnership with the private sector with a capacity of 1,100 sprinklers annually. She stated that "the ministry, with direct support from the Minister of Industry, has provided facilities to the private sector, including four electronic services via the electronic portal of Ur, which allows industrialists to apply for the industrial project electronically, and it is hoped that all services will be electronic by the end of this year."
She continued that "the trademarks department continues to support the private sector and complete the trademark in a very short time," indicating that "requests are ongoing for all projects, whether food, construction or chemical."
Industry strategy
She added that "the factories that were opened are strategic and support the agricultural sector and the Iraqi market, such as the cement produced by the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, which has obtained the Iraqi quality certificate from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, and is the best cement produced in the region, and most of the cement factories affiliated with the Ministry of Industry have been converted to gas systems, first to reduce costs, and second to improve the environment."

She added, "These contracts are the outcomes of the conferences held by the Ministry of Industry and Minerals (the Mineral Investment, Cement and Fertilizers Conference in Baghdad) under the patronage and attendance of the Prime Minister, while revealing that the approval of the Higher Committee for Reconstruction and Investment was obtained to establish the industrial city project in Basra Governorate in partnership with a specialized Chinese company. This project will be established on an area of 3,000 acres and will include factories specialized in the production of iron, steel and aluminum and will provide approximately 12,000 job opportunities for Basra Governorate."

As for the production of medicines
in the General Company for the Manufacture of Medicines and Medical Supplies in Samarra Governorate, Al-Jubouri said: “More than 135 types of pharmaceutical preparations were produced by the company according to production programs that were prepared to implement the concluded contracts and included pills, ointments, syrups, antibiotics, powders, and dry suspensions. All preparations are characterized by their high effectiveness and accurate production according to international specifications and the American and British constitutions of the Ministry of Health, and these were prepared for the Ministry of Health and the private sector.”
