Baghdad/Al-Masala: Within the framework of the Arab Forum for Promoting Transparency and Good Governance, the organization's Vice President Katakandriana Ravitosson spoke about the strategic objectives of enhancing transparency and protecting public funds, stressing the importance of joint action to combat corruption and the need for separation of powers to build a strong system. She also praised Iraq's efforts in this area and stressed that the future holds greater opportunities to combat corruption.
On Tuesday, Transparency International praised Iraq's efforts in combating corruption over the past two years, noting that combating corruption is not easy.
“We aim to establish the principle of transparency and the strategy to protect public funds and improve integrity and construction in the fight against corruption,” said the organization’s vice president, Katakandriana Ravitosone, during her speech at the Arab Forum for Promoting Transparency and Good Governance, indicating that “the future awaits us with greater opportunities in the fight against corruption.”
She added, "Corruption in countries is a wake-up call for us to work on human rights," noting that "the separation of powers is very important for the system to be strong."
She continued, "The discourse is present in fighting corruption," stressing "the need for dialogue and discussion regarding conflicts."
She stated that “there are several countries that have received humanitarian aid, which requires better monitoring mechanisms,” explaining that “the picture is not dark, but rather there is hope.”
She appreciated "the Iraqi efforts in combating corruption during the past two years," noting that "during the three days we will discuss several issues and encourage breaking the silence."
She pointed out that “fighting corruption is not easy, but we do not allow ourselves to fail,” thanking “the Iraqi government, the Integrity Commission, the European Union, and the United Nations for holding this forum, which we hope will continue to be held annually to achieve combating corruption and transparency.”
As the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Sailer, confirmed, the European Union is committed to helping Iraq fight corruption, while he indicated that he discussed with the Prime Minister the mechanism to help Iraq in this regard.
“We thank the Chairman of the Integrity Commission, the government and members of parliament for their cooperation to promote integrity,” Sayler said in his speech at the Arab Forum for Promoting Transparency and Good Governance.
He added: “We worked with Integrity within the European Union project to support integrity and financial oversight in Iraq with a budget of 5 million euros, and there is a complementary strategy worth 4.5 million euros.”
He pointed out that "the European Union is committed to helping Iraq fight corruption," noting that "during a meeting with the Prime Minister, a mechanism was discussed to help Iraq fight corruption."
He continued: “We are talking with members of the House of Representatives and the relevant authorities about what is the best legislation to combat corruption,” adding: “There should be no amnesty for corrupt people.”
He added: “There must be cooperation between all concerned Arab institutions to enhance integrity.”
