    Member of Parliament, Ali Saadoun, confirmed today, Wednesday (September 4, 2024), that the oil licensing rounds need to be reconsidered to achieve the principle of justice, while revealing the existence of injustice to Maysan Governorate during these rounds.
    Saadoun told Baghdad Today, "The licensing rounds concluded by the Ministry of Oil need to review some of their provisions in order to achieve the principle of justice and fairness," stressing that "Maysan produces more than 600 thousand barrels of oil per day and supports the federal treasury with money and lives a reality that no two people disagree on, that it is difficult and there is injustice."
    He added, "The salary of a Chinese employee, for example, in the Bazargan and Halfaya fields in Maysan is at least $15,000 per month, while an Iraqi who works with the same experience and specialization does not reach $2,000," indicating that "there is a huge disparity in addition to the fact that there are hundreds of families who have submitted their agricultural contracts in order to expand the oil fields for promises of employment, and their rights have not been proven yet, despite the passage of many years in terms of employment."
    Saadoun stressed that "there must be greater support for Maysan Governorate, which comes in second place after Basra in oil production, and support for the country's treasury by fulfilling promises to the people in all fields and striving to further develop the service reality and finance strategic projects and provide more job opportunities, especially in oil companies, with generous salaries."
    On Saturday (May 11, 2024), Iraq launched the fifth supplementary licensing round and the sixth round, including 29 projects in 12 Iraqi governorates. 
    Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, considered on Sunday (May 12, 2024) that the fifth and sixth supplementary licensing rounds will contribute to a significant increase in associated gas and free gas and will be reflected in power plants, the petrochemical industry and fertilizers.  
    Al-Sawad said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The step that comes after selecting the winning companies in the fifth and sixth supplementary rounds is to proceed with signing the contracts and activating them for work," adding that "these projects will contribute to stopping the import of gas from abroad."  
    He pointed out that "the aim of the two rounds is to increase Iraq's gas production to reflect on the reality of operating power stations, in addition to activating the economic reality in the governorates where the fields and areas are located, which international companies will proceed to start working in."
