Removing mines obstructing oil projects in 4 governorates

The Ministry of Environment has completed clearing a group of oil fields in four governorates of mines, as well as the railway linking Anbar and Baghdad.
The media office official in the Ministry’s Mine Action Department, Mustafa Hamid Majeed, told Al-Sabah: “The mines were obstructing oil projects in Basra, Maysan, Muthanna and Dhi Qar, and they were removed under the direct supervision of the department and implemented by the authorized parties.”
He added that the department also supervised the clearing of an area exceeding nine square kilometers of the Muthanna desert that was contaminated with cluster munitions, and was invested by the Popular Mobilization Authority to establish agricultural projects on it. He pointed out that it supervised the clearing of the railway road linking Anbar and Baghdad, which was contaminated with explosive devices. This comes within the procedures of the Ministry of Environment to remove war remnants or mines from the sites where they are spread after conducting survey operations in coordination with the relevant authorities.
During the past period, the Mine Action Department implemented the first phase of the campaign to register victims of mines, war remnants, terrorist operations and military errors within Nineveh Governorate to enter them into the database with the aim of providing them with health and social services.
