The General Company for Maritime Transport announced today, Monday, the formation of specialized committees to purchase new ships to enhance its marine fleet.
The company's media director, Taleb Al-Badri, said: "The company has obtained initial approvals from the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Finance to purchase new ships to enhance its marine fleet," noting that "the specialized technical committees are currently studying the types of ships and vessels that Iraq needs."
Al-Badri added that "the company is carrying out periodic maintenance of its marine vessels in accordance with the requirements of international maritime organizations," noting that "maintenance operations are currently being carried out on the ship (Al-Hadba) in one of the Dubai shipyards in the United Arab Emirates."
He pointed out, "the importance of the Maritime Agencies Department, which is concerned with the entry of foreign and Iraqi ships into territorial waters, and coordination with the General Company for Iraqi Ports to follow up on docking operations in ports."
