President of the Republic: Iraq is committed to enhancing cooperation to achieve environmental sustainability

Yesterday, Sunday, President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid expressed Iraq's commitment to enhancing international cooperation to achieve environmental and health sustainability, noting that confronting climate change requires collective, cooperative and international efforts.
The President of the Republic stated, during the activities of the first international conference on climate change and its impact on health security in Iraq, that “climate change does not only represent an environmental challenge, but also directly affects the health security of our peoples and the stability of countries and societies,” noting that “environmental deterioration, rising temperatures, and declining water resources cause the spread of diseases, increase pressure on health care systems, and threaten food and water security.”
The President of the Republic added, according to a presidential statement received by "Al-Sabah", that "Iraq, at the level of the federal government and the Kurdistan Region, is committed to cooperating with partners in the international community, to search for sustainable and effective solutions to confront the challenges of climate change."
He stressed that "success in confronting climate change requires collective, cooperative and international efforts based on science and innovation, and benefiting from global expertise."
Rashid explained that “the Paris Climate Conference has a prominent role in directing global efforts towards a low-carbon future, as this agreement provides a permanent framework that encourages countries to reduce their emissions and work together to adapt to the effects of climate change.”
He stressed "Iraq's commitment to enhancing international cooperation and working to activate the recommendations of the Paris Agreement to achieve environmental and health sustainability. He also affirmed the Presidency's full support for this conference and all efforts made to achieve its noble goals."
He added, "I look forward to the results and recommendations that will emerge from the sessions of this conference, which we hope will contribute to building integrated health and environmental policies that enhance security and stability in Iraq and the region."
