Yesterday, Sunday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani drew up a future roadmap to achieve sustainable development by adopting comprehensive strategic reforms and enhancing international cooperation.
Al-Sudani participated in the Future Summit, which was held in New York yesterday, Sunday, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Prime Minister delivered Iraq's speech at the summit, during which he stressed the need to work on enhancing economic reform and improving the conditions of the most vulnerable groups.
He stressed "the necessity of giving Iraq priority in climate financing, as it is one of the most affected countries," indicating "the government's support for investments aimed at diversifying the economy away from oil."
Regarding foreign relations, Al-Sudani said: “We strengthen our international relations on the basis of mutual respect and common interests, and commitment to the principle of not allowing our territories to be used to attack other countries,” noting that “achieving peace requires a joint international effort, and that diplomacy and dialogue are key to achieving stability.” The Prime Minister called for “strengthening international cooperation in the areas of land, maritime, cyber, and outer space security, in a way that ensures comprehensive security.” Regarding youth and developing their capabilities, he announced “seeking to provide a supportive environment for youth by holding workshops to enhance their role in development,” stressing “the keenness to provide advanced educational opportunities and training programs, and cooperation with the United Nations to develop indicators to measure youth development.” In his speech, Al-Sudani called for “reforming international institutions to enhance their representation and their ability to address global challenges,” pledging “Iraq’s commitment to working with the international community to find common solutions, especially since cooperation will contribute to building a better and more sustainable future for all.” The Prime Minister concluded his five-minute speech by stressing the "necessity of ending the ongoing aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, and working to establish security and stability in the region and the world."
