Final Score: Penguins 4 – Blue Jackets 3

    Game Summary

That game certainly lived up to the hype. It was a hard fought chippy game with teams exchanging chances back and forth. Brandon Dubinsky as expected was right in the middle of everything. His line with Boone Jenner and Cam Atkinson were everywhere and had one of their best games of the season. They brought physicality and offense to every shift. Each player recorded a point and Dubinsky and Jenner each had six hits.

Dubinsky had his best game of the season. He was singlehandedly keeping the Pittsburgh-Columbus narrative going by making plays like this.

It’s a dirty play for sure but it wasn’t as malicious as the cross-checks and wasn’t called a penalty. The refs did not call anything until overtime, letting the players play and dictate the game. This was the third game in the last four in which the Blue Jackets did not get a power play. Its evident teams are not trying to take penalties against the Jackets so they don’t have to deal with their top ranked power play.

The Jackets fell behind early down 2-0 after the first period. Dubinsky got them back in the game scoring his 6th of the season.

It comes off a broken play but these are the goals Dubinsky and Jenner are going to score. Jenner takes the initial shot and then he and Dubinsky crash the crease and whack away until Dubinsky is able to find the puck it roof it.

In the absence of power plays the Jackets turned to another special teams unit to score, the four on four. The Jackets are great in four on four and three on three situations because of their team speed, which was evident on the teams second goal. Seth Jones makes a great rush and take the puck behind the net. He makes a great pass to Brandon Saad, who quickly feeds it across to Alexander Wennberg who snipes it.

Cam Atkinson tied the game at three with his 25th goal of the season. It was a bit like the first goal in that it came off a broken play. Dubinsky shovels the puck towards the net. It gets deflected up and Atkinson is able to bat it down.

That goal allowed the Jackets to take the game into overtime where they secured a point. Pittsburgh got a power play in overtime and when you can run out Crosby, Kessel, Letang and Shultz on a four on three power play you are going to score more often than not. Kessel did and Pittsburgh picked up the extra point.
