Final Score: Blue Jackets 5 – Flyers 3

    Game Summary

The Jackets like to make things difficult for themselves it seems. They jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead but then had a disastrous second period taking seven penalties including a double minor high-sticking. The Flyers tied the game and took a 3-2 lead. Zach Werenski though tied the game and the Jackets won it with two third period goals.

Matt Calvert was back in the line-up and I talked about the impact that would have especially on the penalty kill. He played 4:09 on the PK, and was instrumental in the Flyers going just 1-for-8 on the power play. He also assisted on the Werenski goal.

We are slowing running out of things that can be said about how good Werenski is. He simply continues this incredible campaign he is on. That goal was his 10th of the season. He also added an assist on Cam Atkinson’s first goal of the game, giving him 43 points on the season.

His assist on Atkinson’s goal was a thing of beauty. You can’t see it in the gif below but he makes the pass that sends Cam alone on the breakaway.

I am not really sure how the Jackets ended up on a two on none, but Cam didn’t need any help and finished the play off by himself.
Brandon Dubinsky scored the game winning goal, also his 10th goal of the season.

The second power play unit has been solid of late. Scott Hartnell sets a great screen and Steve Mason can’t see a thing. Dubinsky, fires it up high to give the Jackets the lead they would not relinquish.
