The Predators Swedish contingent made things happen last night…Viktor Arvidsson, Calle Jarnkrok and Filip Forsberg all tallied as the youngsters led the Nashville Predators to a 4-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks last night in front of a sold out Bridgestone Arena.

It’s never a good sign when the first shot against you goes in on a fluky play off a faceoff. Markus Ganlund’s goal got the Canucks off to the start they wanted in order to snap their three game losing streak, but Viktor Arvidsson was Johan-On-The-Spot, continuing his breakout season by potting his 14th of the season, converting a simply outstanding display of passing as Jarnkrok, hit Colin Wilson with a nice pass the Wilson put an even better pass to Arvy who buried it to tie the game.

The Preds hit the gas from there, a little more than 4 minutes later Calle Jarnkrok converted a a sweet setup from… you guessed it, Viktor Arvidsson to put the Preds in the lead to stay. Not that the game was decided yet, a back and forth second period saw no scoring but several very nice saves from both Pekka Rinne and Canucks’ netminder Jacob Markstrom.

The third period saw more of the same until Filip Forsberg got his 16th of the season with a power p[lay goal that turned out to be the game winner. Alex Edler made it interesting with a power play goal a few minutes later… then the inevitable pushback came. The Canucks started to generate some zone time, pushing for the game tying goal, but Pekka Rinne slammed the door, coming up big when he needed to, preserving the win and keeping the Predators in the third slot of the Central Division.

Let’s get to the good, the bad and the ugly from last night.

The Good - The Swedes, the Swiss and the Finn – Great games from Arvidsson, Jarnkrok and Forsberg… Rinne was huge when he needed to be, but the untold story of last night was the outstanding game from Roman Josi, tallying two assists and being in the right places at the right times.

The Bad - Rinne’s great finish hid a weak first period where he seemed to be fighting the puck and not moving well at all. The start actually made his recovery in the second and third all the more remarkable.

The Ugly - Nothing really ugly about last night’s game, except the inevitable yapping from Canucks agitator Alexandre Burrows, who finally opened his mouth one time too many and got a well earned misconduct and an early gate from referee Tim Peel.

The Predators head out to the Big Apple today for their rematch with the New York Rangers tomorrow night at MSG. Pete Weber and I will be previewing the game on tonight’s SlapShot Radio. We will also take a look down on the farm with Daniel Lavendar of Admiral’s Roundtable and also preview Saturday’s game against the Florida Panthers with Cats play-by-play man Randy Moeller. Random Notes

    - Where We Stand – After yesterday’s play, the Nashville Predators have 60 points in 53 games played and continue to stand 3rd in the Central Division. Nashville trails the division leading Minnesota Wild by 15 points (-1 GIH) and 2nd place Chicago by 9 points with a game in hand. Nashville continues to lead 4th place St. Louis by one point. The Preds have a game in hand over the Blues. St. Louis has moved into the first wild card slot, Calgary has the second… both teams lead Los Angeles by a single point. Per sportsclubstats.com, the Predators playoff chances are up to 85.9%

    - You are beginning to hear comparisons of Pontus Aberg to Viktor Arvidsson, Aberg being at the spot now where Aridsson was at a year ago… that would be a very good thing.

    - The Predators are 9-3-1 in their last 13 games

    - Adding a “A” to Ryan Ellis is a very good move.

    - Mike Ribeiro played his first game for the Admirals last night… Milwaukee lost 4-1 for the Lake Erie Monsters

    - Hmmm… how times have changed… the Red Wings are complaining that they aren’t getting calls??? Forgive me while the other 29 teams in the league pause to throw up.

    - Very curious to see Sportsnet’s 360 Virtual Reality that they will be using for six Saturday games.

    - New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault reached the 600 win plateau last night.

    - One game in the NHL tonight, all times CST – 7pm – CHI @ MIN.
