A source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan confirmed the arrival of all delegations participating in the Astana negotiations.
Delegates to Astana include Special Envoy Stevan de Mistura, the armed opposition delegation headed by Mohammed Alloush and the government headed by Bashar Jaafari, as well as Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Stuart Jones, who will attend the consultations as observers.
The source said that the negotiations will be launched this afternoon through separate meetings conducted by the Russian mediator's envoy Vladimir Putin's special Alexander Lavrentiv.
This round focuses on monitoring the ceasefire, exchanging detainees and establishing safe areas.
In this context, Russia offers a detailed proposal that involves Turkey in several areas to separate government forces and opposition forces to ensure a ceasefire.
