    Shafaq News / Parliamentary oil and energy Committee confirmed on Saturday, that the country needs 35 thousand megawatts of electric power to develop different economic, tourism and infrastructure sectors, calling the formed committee recently under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister , Hussein al-Shahristani to speed up the development of mechanisms for power investment

    The Cabinet decided this month to form a committee headed by al - Shahristani to open the door for investment for foreign companies in electric power field

    “If Iraq wants to develop the economic, tourism and infrastructure concept need to 35 thousand megawatts according to official reports and provide this amount of electrical energy that can’t be done only by foreign investment and the private sector,” The Vice- Chairman of the Committee, Ali al-Fayad told “Shafaq News”.

    “The Oil and Energy Committee recommended the Ministry of Electricity to speed up depending on the contract with foreign companies to implement projects to produce energy based on solar energy for being less expensive,” he added.

    The Ministry of Electricity says that it has carried out projects in several provinces, and would deliver the power output to more than 16 thousand megawatts.
