The Federal Republic rejects the challenge to the seat distribution system in the local elections

Yesterday, Sunday, the Federal Supreme Court rejected the challenge to the constitutionality of a text on the seat distribution system for the provincial council elections.
The court’s media stated, in a statement, that “in accordance with the court’s jurisdiction to monitor the constitutionality of applicable laws and regulations, the court considered an appeal related to the constitutionality of a text in the seat distribution system for the irregular governorate council elections in the region, No. (9) of 2023 issued by the Election Commission.”
The statement added, “The court considered the case during its session on 3/24/2024 in the number (56/federal/2024) to challenge the constitutionality of the text of Article (3\Third\C\5) of the system, which stipulates: If one seat remains reserved for women ( Quota) and there were lists that won three seats, two seats, or one seat, and there was no winning woman among them, so the replacement from the lists that won three seats, two seats, or one seat will be for a female candidate who received the highest votes among the women on these lists and did not win a seat, and she will be replaced by a winning candidate. Among those lists.
The brief statement continued by saying, “The court issued its final ruling that is binding on all authorities, according to which it decided to dismiss the appeal because the contested text was consistent with the provisions of the Constitution, and does not violate any of its provisions.
