    {Local: Al-Furat News} Member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Zainab Al-Moussawi, explained today, Saturday, the government’s ambition to reach the production of 8 million barrels of oil per day.

    Al-Moussawi said {to Al-Furat News} that: “Iraq depends entirely on the revenues obtained from the sale of crude oil, as the average oil production is 4.23 million barrels per day, the average oil export is 3.35 million barrels per day, and the government ambition, through the Ministry of Oil, is to reach production of 8 million barrels per day.”
    She added, "This will happen during the next few years through new projects to discover oil reservoirs, as Iraq floats on an oil lake and has an oil reserve of 145.01 billion barrels. The importance of the fifth complementary and sixth licensing round lies in that it will invest in border fields with neighboring countries."
    Al-Moussawi added, “If they will be transformed into productive fields that will add large quantities of crude oil and gas to local production, and the production from these winning fields in the licensing rounds, which number 13 exploratory plots, will reach 250 thousand barrels of oil per day, in addition to producing between 800 thousand and one million standard cubic feet.” of gas per day, with the possibility of doubling this production during the progress of the development operations that the companies will undertake.”
    She explained, "This contributes to providing part of the local need for gas to produce electrical energy, in addition to requiring contracts to employ 90% of the Iraqi workforce."
