WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Senate panel has adopted a bill that would bar the administration of President Donald Trump from approving the sale of weapons to the protection apparatus of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The Trump administration told Congress this year it was planning to allow a New Hampshire arms company to sell an armistice in Turkey for semi-automatic pistols and ammunition worth $ 1.2 million to be used by Erdogan's defense service.
But the deal froze indefinitely, after guards of Erdogan beat protesters in front of the Turkish ambassador's residence in Washington, following the meeting of President Trump in May.
The US prosecution has accused 19 of Erdogan's protection team, including 15 security officials, of beating demonstrators.
The amendment, approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee, is part of the United States' response to the incident. Ending / 25
