US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Beijing has a crucial role to play in avoiding a military confrontation with Pyongyang, which is developing missiles with nuclear warheads capable of reaching the United States.
Tillerson, following talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, expressed his hope that China would cooperate with the United States and begin implementing UN Security Council resolutions on North Korea's nuclear and missile programs to discourage further development.
For his part, the Chinese president said after his talks with the visiting US minister that the most important event in our bilateral relations now is the visit by US President Donald Trump in November, which will be a great opportunity for the development of China-US relations.
Before the US Secretary of State arrives in China, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that North Korean companies and joint ventures in China and abroad will be closed by January 2018 in line with the latest UN resolutions, stressing that the Chinese government will strictly and fully enforce UN resolutions against North Korea.
