The CIA has released 470,000 files of former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden seized during the US attack in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in 2011 in which Bin Laden was killed.

"The release of these documents comes in the interest of transparency and enhanced public understanding of al Qaeda and its former leader," IAEA director Mike Pompeo said in a statement on Wednesday.

The files, which the agency has revealed, include letters, audio and video files, and others that "provide the American people with an opportunity to study in depth the terrorist organization's plans and actions."

"The CIA will look for opportunities to make information available to the American people based on our commitment to protecting national security," he said. Finished
