The EU Council has formally decided to extend economic sanctions against Russia for another six months until July 31 next year, according to the EU Council website.
"On 21 December 2017, the Council extended economic sanctions against a number of sectors of the Russian economy until 31 July 2018," the council said in a press release on its website.
European Union leaders gave the green light to extend the sanctions during a summit in Brussels last week, recalling that they must make progress in implementing the Minsk agreements to lift them.
