The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said on Thursday that more than 1,300 mosques, religious institutions and religious heritage had been destroyed by a terrorist organization in Nineveh province, noting that the buildings needed large sums of money for reconstruction.

"There are more than 1,300 mosques, religious schools, Hasina, religious heritage and shrine in the province of Nineveh, which are destroyed by a certain percentage. There are 900 buildings, 50 percent destroyed and 320 buildings destroyed by less than 50 percent," said Fadel al-Gharawi, a member of the Human Rights Commission.

He added that these buildings need huge amounts, some of which need new construction and others that need rehabilitation and restoration, pointing out that promises were made to restore these buildings at the Kuwait conference, but no building has been rehabilitated so far.
